    • Now we are one year earlier ie 1955
A fantastic video you may be know which show 550 spyders racing in 3 main events
      The Nurburing in Germany
      Goodwood in England
      Le Mans in France
1955 is the year where a Mercedes killed many spectators at the Le Mans race
If you look carefully you will see the cars continuying racing alongside the burning Mercedes and the ambulances

      • What is it about the 550 spyder that is so much more fascinating than the 904? They were both built as limited production with similar numbers. Was it that it was around for more years so there for has a longer history?

I look at this thread with 119 pages & the 904 thread with 4 pages.

        • Alan/All,

Re Carl Block---very tough problem. We show only two races in a 550 (later a few in 550A-0115).

As to one of the two---Cobb Mountain--Pacific coast hillclimb...we do not know start number.

Goodwood 1955 . Thought the spyders with the external oil filler had the higher rear fenders

Mic, I think its just due to the particular group of "active" guys we have here. If we had a couple of RSK or 904-"heads" who were just a passionate as Andrew is for the 550 than the opposite would most likely be the result. Just a theory of course.

Thanks Gerard, Enjoyed those Le mans posts and that Video!

Thank you too Chad! I've never seen a Spyder competing in white-wall tires. Great series of old photos!
