Steve Heinrichs has asked me to post this photo in the hope that we can identify the location. We believe it was an exhibition or auto show and in 1954-55.

Any ideas?

I found the below pic of a VW van carrying what look like a 550
This 550 (if one) has a really funny back, particularly the bumper)
Question have you already see this pic and could you tell us what 550 it is ?

Great photo, but I don't think it is a 550 as it has door hinges on the side and also the overall shape looks wrong

Love the pictures of the cars in the back of the Single cabs. That must have been a slow ride to the track!

From the very interesting video posted above I have extracted some pics related to the 1954 Mille Miglia

Porsche enter 2 cars at this race
550 04 driven by Hans Hermann Herbert Linge

and a 356 1500 driven by Richard Von Frankenberg/Heinrich Sauter

This race was a success for Porsche with 550 04 finishing 6th overall and first in the 1.5 L sport class, behind the winner Alberto Ascari Lnacia D24 and 2 Ferrari and 2 Maserati with much larger engines
Interesting to note that the winner cover the 1000 miles of the race in 11 hours and 26 minutes and Hans Hermann in 12 hours and 35 minutes
351 cars started the race and only 177 finish

and continue with the special ceremony in werke 1 a few days after the race

During this ceremony Ferry Porsche himself was there in the middle of a large number of the Porsche workers to congratulate the pilots

During this race Hans Hermann will be remember as the guy who cross a railway level passage under the close barriers a few seconds before the train arrive as immortalised by these 2 drawings
