Spyder 550 550A

Yes! I think we are up to the Swedish spyder 550-0045! Today it is a regular entrant into a number of modern day events and owned by a collector who is currently offloading a lot of his toys. This one is still in his possession though.

550-0045 started racing in August 1955 when owned by Gerhard Kaiser who raced it in main events like the GP Sweden Kristianstad, Avus GP Berlin and Nurburgring GP with mixed results. Mid 1958 the car was bought by Harald Kronegard who raced it through to the end of the '50s

The car is easy to identify with the blue and yellow striped livery.

Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to respond to the question about the photo above.

We do agree that the yellow car is 550-0082. But we are not certain about the race. We currently believe the photo is likely 1956 La Roche.

At 1956 La Roche, we show Gilberte Thirion racing 550-0082 with start nr. 18. Yves Tassin was also at that race with 550 or 550A, but we do not know the start nr. and we don't know if Tassin was driving a dark green car.

At 1957 GP Rouen, we show two 550s and we found a photo of that race at Simon Lewis Transport Books. The first is 550A-0122, start nr. 2, Christian Goethals. His car was silver (not a dark color) and seems to fit the first car in the Simon Lewis photo. The second car is unclear, but likely Georges Harris with 550-0082, unknown start nr., but the start nr. is shown in a white or very light circle on the hood as it appears in the forum photo. Neither of these cars appears to be a dark color such as dark green like the car in the forum photo.

For the moment, we will stay with start nr. 6 at 1957 GP Rouen. Any other help will be appreciated.
