What I know for sure :
At the time this car was built by Kurt Sauter (end 1955/early 1956) Heini Walter was not yet a close friend of the Porsche family which he became when he bought his first 550 in 1957 (Justin say this 550 to be 550-016 when a Swiss site dedicated to Heini Walter say it was 550-010)
Here a pic of Heinin W

Regarding the ex-Heini Walter Sauter Porsche ther is no evidence that this car was built starting from a 550 chassis
What is certain that the good Sauter/porsche relation helped him to obtain an ex-factory Fuhrmann 547 engine (90022)
The car who exist to day has nothing to do with the original car who was destroyed by Heini Walter early 1957 (some historian say during the Avus Sport cars race other say during the Usanne/Les Rangiers hillclimb race
Another view of this car with the beam open when they are hidden in the first one shown
The car existing today his a tribute car with a plastic body on a tubular chassis more or less a Beck replica modified
So Andrew and Steve if you have any info please let us know

Hi John
Thanks for these superb Sauter pics
Have you an idea where and when they were taken ?
Two things worry me if this car is the same than Heini Walter one pictured at the St Ursanne Les Rangiers hillclimb race (same face with retractable beams) the wheels are not the same and the pilot is not Heini Walter

Since yesterday I have done sope more search and found the in facr Kurt Sauter has buiilt 3 off Sauter Porsche
One foe Heini Walter
one for Peter Nebel
and one for Werner Brandle
Apparently had the face with retractable beams
one with the apparent beam as the red car as say it was a fake
Now this car was presented at the 2009 Goodwood festival as the Heini Walter Sauter Porsche
So Steve some more questions
Were the original Sauter Porsche aluminium or plastic body ?
Is the red car original or fake

On the above pic the one on the trolley behind the VW is Heini Walter car (same wheels) the other one is the car on nJohn pics (VW type wheels)
I have discovered many intersting things on Kurt Sauter cars but no pore disgressions on this topic dedicated to 550
More to be posted on the dedicated topic the X---Porsche cars
