Found on the net (not on tpye550.com) with a comment of Andrew stating that this pic of 550 056 was taken on the Philiip Island race track Australia in 1957
Andrew can you confirm ant tell us more about it
Steve is right on with the details. In Oz, we only have a few tracks. The main one was at Fisherman's Bend which is on the edge of the Melbourne CBD where the Australian GP was raced. The current GP is very close by on a road track in Albert Park.
Phillip Island is about 1.5 hours drive from Melbourne along the coast. It is a great track and is used for the GP Bikes, V8 Super cars and a great historic racing weekend every year. I have been down many time and it is world class. The track has been there for over 70 years and is constantly used each year.
550-0056 was the only Spyder that was delivered new in Australia. There was only one Porsche dealer - Hamiltons in Melbourne and Norman Hamilton bought it in and used it for racing (never himself). The car has been owned by about 8 people over the years and Hamilton has owned it 3 times. It is now in the Fox Collection, Lindsay Fox is a self made trucking magnate here and has one of the best car collections in Australia. The car is on display in his car museum in the city of Melbourne along with about 30 of his other cars (he has 100s tucked away). From memory, he has the largest collection of Rolls Royces outside the UK.
