Well got a chance to make some "progress" with the '54 got it lightly blasted somedays I look at it and think its not to bad then other days what I'm I thinking... Anyway I have told myself just start at one end and work your way to the other.
Got the door plates made and got the passenger side door hung. I need to make a descion on the drivers side door I have one that needs work or should I try to find a better door.
On the gas tank support panel my thought are to cut and tig it in at the bend. Easier to finish and be seamless. Thoughts?

I have put in several that way. If your car did not have drain holes/tubes in the forward corners, it would be a good idea to add them.
Be sure to test fit your gas tank in the recess BEFORE welding it all together. Sometimes the tank won't go all the way down.
Making some nice progress Tony!
You asked about where to make the break on the forward tank floor:
It looks like your new panel has enough lead so I would make the seam right here along the center of those spot-welds.(mid-flange) There is obviously another panel welded under there and this intersection would both reinforce and support your weld joint as well as conceal it from the underside. You'll also be eliminating more of that cancered out metal to the side were the "X's are.

Plus, there is usually more rust than you see and welding thin rusty metal is a pain. Having the extra thickness as Justin mentioned would be a plus.

Took me a few minutes to wrap my head around this issue... the angle bend is going the wrong way.... or the embosed ring is on the wrong side depends on how you want to look at it.
Good catch! That's one of those details that could easily be overlooked until after you've welded it all in.. Simple fix to bend the flanges back the other way.
