  • 58 A Carrera GT resto

I've been asked in the welcome section to show some pictures of the mild restoration of my 58 A Carrera GT.
This car is already in my posession for more than 20 years and was bought in the 70's by my father. So in total it is in family posession for more than 40 years.

After a long race history from 58 to about 66 (Swiss and European championship) the car was not used anymore for racing.
The last race driver left the car in front of his workshop and my father took the chance to buy this wonderful car.
Due to several accidents there was a lot to do and the original engine was unfortunately removed.

In 74/75 it got its first resto with some modifications and a new painting (silver).

Now 40 years later I decided to bring the car closer to its original trim.

That means removing sunroof, fixing aluminium door, adjusting the front part, removing some modifications, interior, .....

Fortunaly there was absolutely no rust.

Here a picture before the resto

One of the main things I had to do was to repair the right door. In the 70's the door was never repaired as it should be today.
It was not really obvious that the door has been in a such a bad condition.

After removing the painting and plaster, it was more obvious....

It was not very easy to find a good workshop that works for a reasonable price. But at the end we found a good workshop with enough experience in Aluminium work.

Left door and rear lid were in very good shape so nothing to do except disassembling....

Yeahh, I finished the restoration after 18 month and I'm happy seeing the result. At the begin I really was unsure if the decision to go to this color was right or not. But yet I'm just happy

No GT brakes and spacers but widened custom wheels .... a nice 'look.'

                      A nice color, too.

Have fun and good luck with that 356!

Its got to be Meissen Blue.It looks just like mine anyway.I have never wanted in 50 years any other colour. Is the interior going to be red?

                        Looks great by the way.

                          Hi Bruce
For sure are there GT brakes. But I didn't want to use the steel/aluminium wheels with spacers. I like more the widened wheels.

                            Hi Roy

No interior is black as original. But red would be nice too.
