You referred to problems lining up the hing on the door and you indicated you noticed later there was a step down. Any help with pics would be great.

This is what I was calling the step. What I did originally was to cut the old metal at the bottom of the step. When I tacked the replacement piece in for what ever reason it was higher creating an angle for the hinge where as the rod overshot the upper hinge. Had to redo a few things but got it flat and the rod worked correctly.

I used the round headed bolts instead of rivets, welded the nut on back and will fill the head and grind to look like a rivet. Not kosher but works and can always fight a rivet if needed.

I had to reset the hinge on the door after the trial fit, did not have enough movement for adjusting the door up-down. I moved the top hinge as far up as the adjustment would allow and placed the detached bottom hinge up as far as it would go. Then measured and then mounted the hinge on the door. It was off from the original spot about an 1/8 inch and gave me more adjusting room.

Thank you Jim very helpful I think your rivet fix with bolts is a good one as well.

Interesting, I looked at a lot of photos and often could not find the step-down or depression.

Easier to see in this one. A little change as time goes on.

Took a couple more photos. These are doors from my roadster(hope to get it done before I die) which also has the step-down, but it looks like the hinge reinforcement is closer to the step.

Hard to see, but the step is there, the doors are 1961 roadster.
