          • 356 003 (the last of nthe 11 356 SL race cars) had a funny carreer
It started by a class victory (the first for Porsche ever) at the Le Mans 1951 24 hours driven by Auguste Veuillet and Edmond Mouche

                        • Rickie,

That is one of many own creations that Otto Mathe built himself
But it sure looks like a real one as you thought but it aint..... But I would love having it anyway

He was really ahead on clever constructions that worked and his homemade super formula of oil additives

                          • Rickie:
My reaction, too, was "that's 550-01", but, on -01 the hood wraps under the nose, like a 904. The surrounding area even looks like the warehouse in Guadalajara where -01 spent most of it's life. I was there when -01 emerged into the 8daylight after many years, fortunately, into the hands of Joe Cavigliri, who has brought it back to life, for all to enjoy. I think Mathe must have had access to info on -01, the body and roof being so similar.
