                • I like the Torque thrust's on there too! Not too many cars around that those wheels don't look good on.

Gerard, Great historical and most interesting information once again! In an earlier post of yours I gather that one of these 20 Abarth GTL's is missing or unaccounted for. I have a bit of urban legend that might shed some light on what happened to it. This story was relayed to me by Tim Lewis about five years back. He said as a kid growing up in California in the late 60's a neighborhood gearhead had somehow came into possession of one of them. By Tim's account he was a typical Hot Rodder of the day who's only real interest was American cars with a V8 so this weird looking foreign car held little interest or value to him. As time passed Tim said he literally watched this guy slowly cut this car up into pieces in his driveway. I could get back in touch with him to clarify the story but the upshot was that this guy completely disposed of it.

                  • Hi Trevor

Agree with you for the alu or magnesium wheels but 1004 is the only pic I found of an Abarth with different wheels than the typical steel wheel
                    This car is 1008

Race number 23 is a reference to the first owner Carl Gunnar Hammarslund when he was racing it in Sweden

                      • The mystery of chassis 1021

For many years a lot of people have considered that in fact a total of 21 Abarth Carrera were built
The rumour were that chassis 1021 had been used to repare 1002 or 1019
Indeed nothing of the above is true
It is now clear that only 20 cars who, still all exist to day, have been built
as per the following list of first owners and the 2010 Registry up date

                        • Indeed a chassis 1021 had really existed but it was not an Abarth but a special A cab left over in 1961 from 1959 as per the following history always issued from the registry

This car was sold new to the Mexico VW/Porsche dealer
Some say this car had been drove by the Rodriguez brothers Pedro and Roberto
