      • Wolfgang Denzel stop to manufacture cars in 1959 but that not the end for him
We have seen that since 1945 he was BMW exclusive distributor for Austria
After the second WW BMW was not in a very good financial situation
The only available cars were the large 501 and 502 not adapted to the depressed car market after the second world war

        • Over the years, Wolfgang Denzel invested a lot of his own money in BMW
He also started to work on a small car adapted to the post war market
This car was the prototype of the BMW 700
In the mean time Wolfgang refused that BMW be sold to Mercedes Benz as the board was willing to do

                    • Hi Justin
Denzel cars had an aluminium body on a VW chassis
Long and difficult to manufacture and expensive
That's why so few cars were built

                      • To day the Rometsch story
The only reason to list Rometsch in this topic is for his contribution to the Harry Merkel Rometsch Porsche spyder we already talk of in the Sauter story

                        • Friedrich Rometsch (1880/1959) opened his Auto Karrosserie in Berlin Hallensee in 1924 to build expensive cars on special chassis
Very quickly his business grew and soon he had more than 50 employees
Another side of his business was to transform series car as taxi and also to manufacture buses

                          • During the 2nd WW Rometsch at the Nazi army request had to close their Karrosserie activity to build portable kitchen on wheels for the German army
Soon after the end of the second WW Friedrich Rometsch reopen his coachwork activity and decided to build a cheap sport car
As many other German coachbuilders in this period the idea was to start from the VW chassis and engine and study a special body
Rometsch technicl Director Johanness Beeskow took in charge the design
The first car was finish in 1949
