has anyone cut open a dansk exhaust and made any alterations to enhance the sound and/or performance?

This muffler was made from a Dansk 'sport muffler' but could just as easily been made with 'S' pipes. It began as a standard muffler but I had to create the 'Euro' mating. I worked with the internals and it sounds great now. Dansk mufflers are a great starting point, but alas, they are no longer inexpensive nor reliable in fitment...and the labor to create what's shown here wasn't cheap, either. But I had fun!

Nice work Bruce! Tony Smetona and I have also done a few over the years with Leistritz mufflers. Some with " sport " style for T5/6, which require a higher outlet than A type, including one we did for Mike Clark's 1904cc T5 outlaw with nerf bars and 912 chrome tips through the factory body cut-outs, and Mike Allen's former rally car with European delivery heater system, which as you know was never offered with a sport exhaust option. I have no experience with Dansk muffler mods, but the Leistritz euro has a very strange baffle system that is not equal from side to side. The OP may be well served to read the section on Craig Richter's book "How To Make An Old Porsche Fly" regarding the "pillow affect" of a stock muffler.Jack (analog man from the stone age)

Sorry, S.J., I have not heard of stainless 356 J-pipes, let alone with heater cans.
Even the 'regular' steel reproduction cans are not made EXACTLY as the originals, so they too require some fussin' to install. I remember how excited we were when SSI came out with the sets for 911s....but therein lies the problem, demand dictating supply.
It would not be that difficult to create a set with SS tubing and a hand-cut flange, using decent original heat-transfer cans. Actually, Dansk makes a SS muffler which has those flanges, so maybe.....nah, never mind.....it's Dansk, so better making your own or contracting with a machine shop for a run of 100 or more. An easy CNC operation out of plate stainless for a shop versed in such operations with that material.
As for the Dansk stainless muffler- I had a couple come in on customer cars that required TIG welds on cracks in the thin gauge SS where the SS tubing entered the casing after only a short time of exposure to heating and contracting. I wouldn't call that reassuring for longevity, the primary reason someone would use stainless.
