Hi all. Lots of info on this forum to look at. Cannot wait.

    I have a 71 911 and also a 58 356A.
The 356 is a bit of a mystery and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently it was a South African rally/race car.

    Kardex and pics attached.

    Cheers

    Jim

        Hi Roy,

Yes it has been modified. The interior was stripped out, the engine bay lined with alloy plate, the floor pan underneath has seen some action and it has had a smash on the front.
All points to someone, somewhere racing it.
I have lots of South Africa questions. Is there a thread on this?

        Cheers

        Jim

            Hi Jim,
Thanks for joining us here and Welcome!! Sounds like your coupe may have been raced at some point. There are a couple of really good guys from S. Africa here who might be able to help. One guy in particular is Armand Botha (IMPI) Here is a link to a discussion concerning S. African 356's which he responded to: http://www.abcgt.com/forum/4-356-Forum/32703-Joe-Parker-weeks-356-South-Africa.html

Hope you can find the answers you're looking for. Welcome once again!

I have information that one of the previous owners is:

              Terry Townsend

              http://hrcr.co.za/documents/historic_times/historic_times_2010_01.pdf

A bit of a write up on the link above.

Also another noted previous owner is:

Rod Howsler (spelling of last name may be incorrect). It states that it was his racecar but it is a hand written document which was done when the car was imported to Australia from South Africa circa 1989.

Interesting stuff. I love the history and stories these old cars hold.

              Thanks for the replies

              Cheers

Is there a way I can send Impi a personal message. I cannot find out how to do it.

                Cheers

Another Guy on here with a S.African car is 'Ren' He started on here about a month ago but I have known him for some years now on the UK 356 site DDK.

                    TOPIC: New Member Ren

Don't know if his thread will come out above?

Also I have looked up the 356 club in S. Africa and it seems very active. I went on google and there was info about the agent Lindsay motors in Joberg where they all seemed like yours to arrive.

I have a written reference itvwas was a "back up" car for the Lindsay Saker Porsche race team.
Was there even such a team?

I have just found info on your car from 2013. It lists quite a lot of information when owned by this guy who belongs to the 356 registry.

Maybe of interest? Scroll down to locate the guy Kennedy.

Yes that is Max. A nice elderly man who has given all his info to me.
I am just trying to sort it all out.

Anyone with any info on any 356 race cars in South Africa from 58 onwards ????
