  • Jack Staggs Annual 356th day of the year party '16

Just as a side note: If any of you regulars on the site here need a place to crash Friday or Saturday night I'll happily offer up my couch or one of my kids rooms so you have a place to sleep and don't have to spend $ on a hotel. Fair warning though, I have an English bulldog and he sounds like a freight train at night

Less than a week to go. The garage band is confirmed to play again this year!

Also, please don't forget to bring those parts that are just sitting in a cardboard box in your garage. Lay out a blanket in front of your 356 and offer them up for sale to others that have a car in need.

          Hey Alex,
Sorry I missed meeting you as well. If I'd have known you were going I would have had Trevor point you out to me. He seems to know everyone; Next time then!

I wanted to thank Jack for all his hospitality and for putting on such a nice event once again, I really enjoyed myself. It was great catching up again with Tom, Trevor, Bill, Rosemary and of course Ole' Jack himself.
It was also very nice to have met a couple of guys, Miles Richardson and Craig Richter whom I'm very familiar with here online but had yet to put a face to the name. A special Thanks to Craig for the warm welcome and the really nice things you said. You really made my day so thank you again Sir!

Here are a few photos of the event. I took about 80 of them so I'll post in installments.

Several familiar cars from 2013 like this beige coupe but also a few I hadn't seen before which is always interesting.

Jack built the motor and I believe he said it was 1904CC or around that number. Trans is also set up with tall gears so it cruses at over 80MPH effortlessly.

Jack took the emblem to a jeweler and had the 6 flipped to correspond with the engine's displacement. A really cool car!

The red '62 roadster is owned by a guy that was a teenager when he purchased it in the '60s. His father took it away from him for a while after he got too many tickets. We recently got it up and going for him after 20 (?) year slumber.

The slate grey sunroof with the Speedster spears is all original paint, chrome, interior, etc, etc, etc. 62k on the clock since new. Other options include a Carrera wood steering wheel, and head rests. A truly amazing time capsule.

The black car with the red wreath on the luggage rack was purchased new from Van Wyk in Santa Barbara. Never restored or rust issues, but some cosmetic work. Still driven nearly every day by John, the original owner. I've driven this car well over 100 mph with Felix Macaluso in the passenger seat while he was pointing at the tach in the red zone. My response? "She can take a little mooorre, Captain" (thanks Scotty!). When he first brought the car to us, it had been sitting for close to ten years, while he was away with work issues. We got it up and running, cleaned and detailed. When he came to pick it up, he walked right by it and and asked, "Where is my car?"

Jack, thanks for sharing the interesting background on some of these cars. I went ahead and added the corresponding photo to your description. Any more; please do tell?
                  Thanks again!

I had the twin to the red roadster, except mine had factory disc brakes, and mouse bites on the drivers seat bottom. Last time I saw it it was at Gary Emory's awaiting longitudianls. When I saw that one it took a minute to spot the hub caps, I thought I had found it's new home.
                      Pushed around since 1966.

Motor is Hot Rod VW unit dressed to look like a standard 356 engine and is backed by a 901 trans with early 901 rear suspension. Just a great looking car all the way around.
That concludes my photos. If you attended and took a few of your own please share!

Black car is owned by Alex (VW engine at the moment). The T6 on Fuchs in front of him is his Dad's.

Good seeing you Justin! Here are mine.
