  • Hedingham 4 Cam Special

I'm opening a thread for Classics at the Castle. This Sunday 6th Sep. It has a 4 Cam special and there will be over 40 4 Cams on display. I will try and get lots of pictures. If anybody on here wants more information on a specific car I/anybody else (Roy are you going?) will try to have a chat with the owner for you.

    Hey Neil,
That sounds like its going to be one amazing event! Would you kindly take lots and lots of photos and share them with us so we can see just what we missed. I'm sure Roy's going and hopefully he'll see this post.
Looking forward to your accounts and thanks!

      Hi Neil,

Click away at your heart's content if you see any 550 spyders - be sneaky and see if you can get shots of any build plates on them.
      There are 3 in total:
Build plate - passenger side wheel well under dash

It is rare to see the engine bay open on 550-04...

            How come Andrew?

The last time I saw it in the Stuttgart Museum it was in the workshop. There is a only a glass wall between a cafe and the workshop so there may of been opportunities to get a photo of it's engine bay.

I am not sure if it is bad timing by me, but I have seen it 4 times in the flesh and even when I have asked they wouldn't open it

Ok I will put the best Porsche men/women in the country onto it.

Actually they don't speak to me so the DDK mob will have to do! Let see if we can get a picture of the engine bay.

                  Neil,

I will not be at Hedingham. I have friends from the Porsche club in the Netherlands going one friend with a super 356A in the same colours as mine travelling from Holland.

Mike Smith asked if I was going but, its also a fair distance for me as well as I have not corrected my starter solinoid problem yet. Made some initial multi meter checks all okay but the next step is to have it up on axle stands to diagnose further.I am pretty sure its either the copper contacts in the solinoid or the ignition switch contacts or the switch wire. Until sorted I am not 356 travelling far at all.

Have a good time should be a good day.

                  Roy

I've got lots of photos. Unfortunately none of the engine bay of 004! There wasn't even anybody by it to ask to open it.

I've managed to get a photo of another 550 and it's vin plate. Strangely 004 doesn't have a vin plate by the passengers feet!

It's going to take me a few days to get the photos onto here. I thought there would be more interesting cars. Lots of 356s about 10+ carreras but only 2 spyders and one 904!

However, I did meet Bob Garretson {https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Garretson). Who seemed to have come with PRS (356 specialist in the UK). He knows about racing Porsches!

I am glad it is not just me! I do have some shots of the engine of 04, but haven't taken one myself. Which was the other 550 there??

Here is a video that someone else took

                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlD13eeLxp8

The first car was raced in period in the Panamerican. Now is owned by a gentlemen in Monaco and raced regularly in CLM etc

The grey Roadster at about 1:20 mins into the video has an interesting story. I spoke to the owner. You may notice it has a baby seat in the back for his son

                        More later ..

Here is a 'youtube' link showing all the 356 cars going past in a line up. My Dutch friend Etienne sent me this his car a Meissen blue/red 356A looks the same as mine but better. His car is the 2nd or 3rd? car to go past.

                            Neil,
Looks like the majority of cars are left hand drive are RHD cars that rare even in England?

Yes most lhd cars. Especially the cars in the parade because they are rarer, ie carreras, so even less in rhd. However, there where some rhd cars there. You pay extra for a rhd car here. I don't think it's work it.
