Just found that pic of a 904 with an 8 cylinders engine but that was 2 years ago in 2012
May be this car was again there this year
Difficult to know what engine are in these racing cars
I remember that last year the car to win historical races in France was the 914/6
6 off 914/6 were entered into the Tour de France auto including one prepared by Andy Prill/maxted Page
Following a complaint from several other competitors the organizer decided to check the conformity of all the 914/6 (they are supposed to have a 2.0 L engine)and 4 off the 6 914/6 were retired from the competition by their owner
The rumour was they had all 4 a 2.6 engine

Well the 904 / 8 car was certainly there because I spoke to the driver as he was waiting for qualifying.
Your story about the 904 / 6 having a large engines makes sense. I was wondering why the 904/8 wasn't competitive compared to the 904/6.
However, someone from DDK has built a very nice 904/6 clone and it has a 2.5l engine in it and it goes very well.
