  • 14.4 liter American LeFrance for Peking to Paris

    All

Way off topic, but at the monthly Whidbey Island sports car club gathering, one of the local members brought his 1914 American LeFrance Roadster. This is a huge chain drive, six Cyl, 3 plug per piston, exposed pushrods 100year old rebuild. Built and headed for Peking in a couple days for this years endurance ralley series. (Oh I forgot he built two the 1914 and a1925 for the race so his wife could drive one). Google Peking to Paris race

He started with parts, had everything remade and it's one beautiful automobile. Floor boards har higher than my 356 windshield. It drives well and sounds like a airplane,

Update from the Peking to Paris

Both Whidbey Island entries are out. One threw a rod through the side of the block, the other broke a rear radius rod and took out the suspension. Been you would think after 100 years all that bad luck would be used up.

The race continues but the local teams are out of the race. All the Porsches are still in, there is a link from the blog where you can track the cars. The 356's press on.

WOW, both amazing and refreshing to see these cars put to the purpose they were designed for. How far into this race are they?
        Thanks for posting John!
