How about the arrogant mantle of secrecy and deception employed to keep the Membership in the dark about the true agendas and activities of the Leadership?

        • Mic,

I think you are fine, I had the same trouble. I wanted to look up something couldn't access it. Maybe we are doing something wrong as lurkers and not members. Maybe its on there but moved?

Or, maybe they want us lurkers to join, then the button appears as if by magic.

For sure it still might be staring us in the face who knows

          • Mic and Roy:

You are correct. The Registry has elected not to display the search button at the top of the forum pages unless you are a member. Whether that "feature" was intentional or not I have no way of knowing.

The search function on that forum is not particularly good compared to others that are available. Here are ways to search that forum using Google that some including the undersigned have found helpful.

            The first:
            googleite porsche 356 registry ipod
If the above does not click through copy and paste it into your search bar. Substitute whatever you want for ipod

            Another:
            torque site:www.porsche356registry.org
Substitute whatever you wish for torque

Someone over there posted a better solution. My first wife contributed to the 2 above and posted this over there also - maybe there is something in that or a similar thread:

            http://forum.porsche356registry.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=36651#p218161

Good luck. If you find something better and you probably will let us know. For the time being at least my first wife remains the only member of the Sampson household permitted to belong to the R.

            • Just another way to foster relationships with potential new members. I'm sure if they could find a way to make it so no one could even read it with out being a member they would. Just my opinion.

Once again thanks to Justin & those that post here & thanks to Everett & The Samba.

              • Mic and Bill,

Thanks Bill for the info! By the way Mic for some time I have been using google. In the search box I just enter for example: porsche 356 steering box ZF and then up comes various sites including 'R' and old posts.

Don't know how these posts get onto Google I have even seen posts to the registry I made years ago now appear. Maybe 'R' have no way of stopping that happen?

I wonder if some of the 7K registry members who actually post technical answers to peoples problems would really object to their answers being available to lurkers in 356 trouble?

Yes, thanks to Justins abcgt, Everett's samba , and DDK-online over here open to anyone.

                    • In regards to the above R-thread, a question was asked by Geoff Fleming.
"what does he think you are doing with this information, other than helping 356 owners?"

I think the answer to this should be quite obvious. He is going to write a book & use this list to contact each member & ask them to buy it.

Maybe I have that mixed up with the other guy? Let's go back & look at the minutes from the meeting. Oh that's right, they are "confidential", for Trustee's eyes only.

About the privacy issue - Isn't it funny how they want total privacy but force you to use your real name on a forum that can be publically viewed? George Dunn also posted Bill Blocks complete address in the above mentioned thread. It must be o/k for the "leadership" to do this but not a member?

                      • Mic,
The entire 'privacy' line is simply a red herring, has been from the beginning.
It's a non-profit club that is supposed to foster interaction between members. The court has already decided that issue, and it has been rendered moot, yet Mr. Dunn continues to parrot the 'protect your privacy' nonsense. Repeating a lie worked about 60 years ago, but the tactic is now an old and tired one. Apparently the R's leadership hasn't come to terms with the new reality of the internet.

                        Comment

                        • Yes, Mr.Dunn's rejoinder is yet another example of the mis/dis-information that is the hallmark of the Club's Ruling Circle.

Ohio State regulations require that the list of members (with contact info only) of a non-profit be made available to any Member who makes a reasonable request, period. The Ruling Circle's Big Show of protecting the "privacy" of its Members is first and foremost, a means to avoid/avert rightful Discovery in the Lawsuit. It has come to symbolize the circling of the wagons to fight off the spoilsports that want Their private playhouse run like a real, honest-to-goodness, law-abiding car club.

Predictably, Mr.Block has been thrown under the bus in the name of keeping control. It is poor reward for someone who has done so much to advance the better interests of the Club.

                              • Why do things always have to be a secret? From the R forum about the election results.

                                A question was asked.
How many ballots were received? How many votes for each listed candidate? Who received write in votes and how many?

                                The short answer was.
George explained the policy to me during that call, that those who run for trustee are given the tally of the votes but that it would not be published to the general membership.
