It was definitely fun and cheap and not at all concoursy. We were camping and camping always involves a fair amount of dust unless you're in snow and mud. Thanks to Pete McNulty of the Porsche 356 Club of Southern California for a great job of organizing and putting on this event.

My personal fear--
Loss of involvement by others on this thread.
If "the same old few" make it uncomfortable to lend ideas or comments from others, that would negate the usefulness of Justin's generous allowance to do just that.
It should be obvious that I and others care a lot about the Registry, maybe too much. We have a tendency to get abrasive and 'over the top' and I suppose alienate others and for my part, I am sorry if I contributed to the stagnation of this thread.
Arrogance should not exist at any level of a car club (or anywhere else in life), even if someone happens to think they are dead-nuts 'right.'
I often forget what I learn from my customers. A few who are in the psychology biz have mentioned that each person is entitled to their own truth, but that does not mean it's THE truth or that another person's truth is totally 'wrong.'
Some of what has unfolded involves some of us very personally, albeit being about "just a car club.' Speaking for myself, in the future I need to be more objective and to state facts to illuminate Registry pluses and minuses as I see them, as there is obviously good to go with what I and many others perceive as 'bad.'
Someone, please offer some comments or suggestions of what you would see a great club do to be better, to keep up with changing times and communication abilities, to keep the ball rolling, to honor the model that built the Porsche brand.
If you are reading this and think all is well in how the Registry operates, please post that, too, but please tell why that is the basis for your position.
If respect and a positive energy is felt between posters, then this truly is the current place where we can post anything and still 'agree to disagree' while airing our feelings, concerns and observations. If a healthy discussion, it will spread and grow.
If negative in tone, it will wither and nothing will have been gained.
Oh, of course we may digress now and again; about one in 4 engines I have rebuilt lately have been 'dripless.' I am getting a pro to try to get my old Case 580C backhoe to be LESS drippy.....one boom cylinder hose burst this week (in use) and we think 356/912 oil leaks are messy! OY!

Bruce, my take about involvement is that with the way folks live today, being so busy, they go with the flow and if the few concerned parties don't win to make a difference, the powers that be will not make any changes and nothing will change. Just like our current political system. People get bored very fast and new news becomes old and then people forget and move on. Pretty sad, but that's what history shows.Mark Erbesfield

are building a rough model of a Registry that responds to the needs of the Members, while conducting itself in accordance with applicable law and regulation. As disarmingly simple and blatantly obvious as this may seem, this is a radical concept to many in the Club and is not the easy sell that logic would make of it.
And so it is a job of work, this reform. And it is up to those who care to roll up their sleeves and do the heavy lifting for those who empathize but lack the stomach to do what needs to be done. And knowing the task, we should not berate ourselves if sanity and/or emotional fatigue requires occasional respite. Nor should we be discouraged as the ebb and flow of vigorous duty to the cause (and those who watch its exercise) shows response to the onset of summer and, for those outside the temperate zones, its attendant seasonal priorities of family, friends, and fun with cars
It may not be the very best way imaginable to go about such a task, but it is the only other game in town.

It's not your fault Bruce. Several "potential posters" made our positions clear a few months back. If one of "the same old few" didn't change his tone and treat others more respectfully, you wouldn't be hearing from us, probably ever. Changing the club into something none of us can even recognize is not likely to capture anybody's attention, and is a long way from curing transparency or lack of disclosure issues brought to light by Steve H's lawsuit.

In the 60's I joined PCGB ( Porsche Club Great Britain ) the club revolved around the 356 at that time and it suited me exactly. As time rolled on into the 70's and 80's everything changed the 911 series took over really from the earlier 356 concept. I received the magazine over time enlarged and in colour and instead of really waiting for it to arrive, when it did, I just 'thumbed' my way through it looking mainly for 356 content which reduced and reduced even more, over time.
I used to go PCGB picnics a nice easy going day talking with like minded people and looking at their cars or going to various race tracks to see how they managed to keep their 356 cars competitive.
By the new century though I lost interest, the 911 is a nice car should have bought a SWB version and hidden it away but didn't.
The Registry when I found it seemed so interesting, but then it would as it was right up my street 356 wise. I really enjoyed reading all the comments right up to the time they closed it to non-paying members. ( As previously mentioned would have paid a nominal amount if asked to )
Now, its less and less that I look on their forum. I don't think it will change format at all and actually whilst I really appreciated such helpful information on 356 cars from such clever guys its likely now the Samba or Justins forum here or DDK over here can usually answer questions.
It also seems to me, a forum made up of 'questions and answers' would now not really interest me so much. I like to read stories of guys experiences rebuilding their cars, how they manage to do it or how they have managed to keep their cars for so long and this forum does that. Also I don't need yet another magazine to clutter up my house.
In other words Bruce, I seem to be happy with DDK, The Samba or Justins and don't really need the Registry its similar in fact, to how I lost interest in PCGB. ( I do understand exactly how you must feel though after so many years involvement over there.)
I would like to know how Barry is doing now? not seen anything from him anywhere for ages?

Roy, Barry (Briscoe) is well and I will post more later as time permits.
The postings here will give me more to consider as I cut the grass.....
