What is the best backspace measurement for a rim and tire combo that will not rub or touch the spring plate? I plan to run 16 in steel wheels on a custom rim, and was told by the wheel shop 4.5 is the maximum.
The wheel will be 16x7 in the rear and 16x6 in the front.

Depends, is this stock 356 swing axle or a 901 arm trailing upgrade? I've heard it said that you can go as wide as a 7 inch at the rear of a AB or C if you get the offset dialed in.
