You are right there is a A on the top and something that could be a R below, not a W
Never seen such a plate before

May be Andrew will tell us the truth

• The Spyder is 550-08, the original 1954 Mille Miglia car which was driven by Hans Herrmann #351. It was not a Sonauto car, but at the time owned by Storez. He also raced it in the Liege-Rome-Liege. I am not sure why the car had the AR plates on it - when racing in different countries, they usually used the oval export plates.

• Indeed Claude Storez raced 550_08 with Herbert Linge in the 1954 Tour Auto they finish 2nd overall (your pic) and first in class 1.5 L
[attachment:1]550StorezLinge TDF54.JPG

I believe that in September 1954 550-08 was still belonging to Porsche hence the presence of Herbert Linge to help Storez and bought by Storez there after

At that same Tour Auto Annie Bousquet and Marie Claire Beaulieu share another 550 said by some to be 550-05
Your opinion ?
[attachment:2]550TDF54Bousquetbeualieu.JPG
For the small history Bousquet Beaulieu finish 8th overall beatten by Gilberte Thirion/Ingeborg Polensky driving a factory 356 GT 058 and not personnal Gilberte 356 GT 061
[attachment:3]356GT Tour auto 54.JPG
Gilberte Thirion /Ingeborg Polensky won the ladies'cup and finsih 5th overall an exceptionnal performance taking into consideration that several large Ferrari's and Aston Martin were on the start line

• So in 1955 550-08 belong to Claude Storez
He raced this car in May at the Dieppe rallye as seen above
In August 1955 he enter 550-08 with Maurice Gacon (friend of Auguste Veuillet and Porsche dealer for the Lyon area) as co-pilot into the Liege Rome Liege rallye
Storez Gacon finish the rallye 33rd overall with a car in a quite bad state

• Before entering 550-08 in the Dieppe rallye, I believe that Claude Sorez first race with that car was the Agadir GP February 27th 1955
Am I right ?

In 1955 Claude Storez was still Panhard official pilot for the Panhard Monomil race car

• You are always very thorough in your research!

After extensive research, I have verified evidence that the 550 that Veuillet and Bousquet raced was 550-07 and not 550-05. I now have race entry records plus differences in body design that confirms the car is 550-07. 550-05 went to South America to race and did not return to Europe.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the car at the Montlhery Coupes USA race in March 1955 (#64), the Montlhery Coupe de Paris in April 1955 (#54) or the Spa-Francorchamps, GP Belgium in May (#1)

thanks Andrew

• It has taken a very long time to come to this conclusion, but 550-05 and 550-07 both had the same fixed rear body. Analysing heaps of photos in detail show small but significant differences between both builds. 550-07 was originally a lift rear buckelwagen before it was changed to the fixed rear body and sold to Veuillet.

One photo which always threw me was the photo of a 550 being tested on the Autobahn. Originally thought to be 550-07 with a low lift back rear is in fact 550-08 being tested before the Mille Miglia.

The first clue which lead me to seeing there were two fixed rear 550s, was the position of the lock on the glove box - such a small difference, but enough to realise it was not the same car. It is one thing which would not change on a car when there were body updates done.

You can also see how the firewall has been cut down from when it was a buckelwagen.

I now have race entry documentation from Veuillet racing identifying the car as 550-07. The evidence is now building...
