Interesting to note that in these years the only security device for pilots was a helmet : no security belt, no ignifuged suits.

This is one of those rare occasions where not being buckled in saved a life. You can see him being dumped out here in Gerard's last post photo.

Sorry for the delay getting back, have been away for a few days. The Werks team only had a number of limited factory cars to race, but they wanted a strong presence at as many events as possible throughout Europe. I assume the newer RSKs were racing elsewhere at the time. RvF's car was a factory car, and as you can see from the race entry list, it is entered by Porsche.

Andrew how do you explain that Richard von Frankenberd official Porsche pilot was driving a quite old 550 RS when 3 Porsche independant customers
Ernst Vogel race number 68
Heini Walter race number 66
and Richard von Dory race number 76
had bright new 718 RSK ?
Came across these photos of a Sauter-Porsche which says it is 550A-0129. They were taken back in 2011 with the owner as Fritz Kozka (who used to own May's 550-0031 with the wing). I don't have any other photos of 0129 today - does anyone know any info on it??
Andrew
I have been away these last past days for a sail competition in Spain and I only discover your last posts to day
Thanks for your very clear answer to my question re Richard von Frankenberg 550 RS
Regarding your question about the Sauter Porsche KS 11 this car is one of the first I discuss in my topic the X...Porsche cars (page 2 to 6)
I post below some extracts
As you may see I discuss this car with Steve and he was sure it was not based on a real 550
