A good week in progressing a number of parts. With rust all but cut away nice to start fitting big chunks of metal in.
Need to get the transmission cover panel in but need to wrestle in the parcel shelf first. Nice piece from Design Restoration but some heating a shaping required around the edges and bottom curves. Amazing how different the side chassis frame is from side to side. "made by hand" comes into play with every piece.

tackling the inner rear panel. Nice piece again from Design Restoration but has taken some lovin to get it to fit. It gets real tricky in the engine bay.
The piece required a lot shaping along the bottom edge
to follow the lap seems of the chassis. I made a number of cuts to hammer in place. for the next piece I will get in position and the heat and shape the bottom curved seam that tucks under the chassis seam.
The hardest part was curving and pulling in the inner panel to meet the shape and curve of the top edge of the rear longitudinal closing panel. The great help and assistance by Bob made this all come together.1960 356B T5 - under major resurrection.

The inner panel extends into the rear engine bay area. A lot of pieces overlap here and shake hands. I have cut away the rusted engine bay metal back far enough to give me the final shape of the back end of the inner panel as a guide - it was paper-lace thin anyway. A lot of compound curves at the end of the inner side panel that had to be shaped. Need to first build back the engine bay metal to extend forward and behind the end of the inner side panel. I can weld the butt seams together but I can't weld the bottom of the new piece where it goes under the curved edge of the chassis frame - because the inner panel when put in place extends back into the engine bay between the chassis frame and the engine bay side metal. These two pieces will
get lap welded together. Took inner rear side panel out for maybe the last two times. Will need to rebuild and dress the engine bay metal first and then slide back in the inner side panel into the engine bay area and lap over the new metal.1960 356B T5 - under major resurrection.

I'm also looking ahead towards installing the heal panel. Do the bracket cones that get welded to the heal panel get welded on the back or the front the heal panel? It really looks like it gets welded on the back. Anyone know the distance from the torsion bar edge to the heal panel?
UPDATE: Alex from DESIGN RESTORATION confirmed - the support bracket gets welded on the back of theheal panel.1960 356B T5 - under major resurrection.

A couple of moving piece here that all need to come together.
Finished up the missing metal in the engine bay area that needs to go in first there are three overlapping pieces that get a little complicated.
Got the metal done, the inner side panel finally fitted after drilling about two hundred holes which means a lot of spot welding and of course grinding. also had to commit to positioning and welding in the rear closing panel for the longitudinal on the rear as this sets the curve of the inner panel. A lot of shaping was required to get this sitting just right.1960 356B T5 - under major resurrection.

John, that's an awesome tool. I have the manual version which works great, easy to punch and it makes a nice clean hole with no burrs. I also use a step drill bit, but the punch is so easy for flat metal close to an edge.

the parcel shelf is in and works really nicely. I am starting to see how the transmission cover panel will fit. The leading edge of the transmission cover does not mate up well at all with the front of the parcel shelf. Anyone dealt with this issue before. Anyone have pictures of working on the transmission cover and putting in place??
Any help or pics would be appreciated.

Time for a quick update - I feel like I am jumping around on the car a bit at the moment but a bunch of pieces are all starting to join together. Been focused on passenger inner rear panel (in) and lock post and rocker (In) as well as front closing panel.
Now on to drivers side - installed lower hinge, rocker (in position) and lock post - not working at all. Also working to get the tunnel repaired and the floors in position.

Thanks John, this area is a dogs breakfast. Easier second time around I hope but still a lot of Cutting and lapping together. Fortunately I did the other side in January so doing this side while it is still a little fresh in my mind should help. Wish I had done this on other sections earlier on. I find I go back to do the other side and spend hours trying to remember and think it through again. Given the time we all invest in these projects shaving a few hours here and there is helpful.1960 356B T5 - under major resurrection.
