  • Heater slide, Tank to body seal, Luggage rack

Have now 3 questions concerning my 356B T6, VIN 212167.
More to follow as I proceed.

#1. Bought the 217mm long heater slides and noted that the hole in the slide is
much smaller than the hole on body. Do I have the correct slides? The sheetmetal
is replaced so no old holes.

#2. Bought a reproduction Lietz luggage rack and could someone with the real one
measure what is the gap between the luggage rack mounting strips and the engine
deck lid grill. Now it's leaning too much back, the gap is bigger on top.

#3. What would be good seal to seal the full tank to body? The tank is new, so I look
for something to seal the tank itself to the opening in body.

    TIA,
    Juha

Juha, there are only two versions of heater slides that I am aware of; the early all alloy and small 356A version and the larger metal/plastic slide like your showing which where the same on up through the early 911's as my fathers '66 has those exact slides. Can't speak to the hole size discrepancy but if its an accurate reproduction you have there then I would say that is the way it came from the factory. Sorry I can't be of more help here as 356A cars are more my thing. Hopefully someone with a T6 will jump in here with more definitve info.
As for the rack here are some shots I took of Miles Richardson's car last month.

This shot shows clearly just how close the lateral mounting straps are from the grills. Again if you need that exact measurement hopefully someone can provide it. Maybe Alex Mestas might jump in as his car runs this rack...

As for the angle of the rack it is supposed to have more of a rake and does not run parallel with the surface of the lid.

Not sure about you tank "seal" question??
Hope this helped at least a little.

      Thanks Justin.

The tank seal. Perhaps the tank opening edges in body was originally so straight that
no seal was required. Now in my car it is not and dust & water can creep in trunk.
This is why I plan to seal it.

Factory 356B-C workshop manual mention a "seal" on page SF 22.
"Cork strip between tank and car body..."
I can't find this cork seal in spare parts list?

911 have a seal, at least partially between tank and body.

I probably go and buy something similar.
