In 1960 Paul Ernst Strahle is one of the first buyer of the bright new Porsche 356 Abarth
His car had chassis number 1002
A seen before this car did race the Nurburging 1000 kilometers in May 20th 1960

In fact the 1960 Nurburgring 1000 km were the 2nd races for the new Abarth Carrera
The first race was the 1960 Targa Florio raced by May 8th ie 2 weeks before the Nurburgring

Obviously he did enter his Abarth Carrera chassis number 1002 in many local races
Early 1961 Paul Ernst Strahle sold his Abarth Carrera 1002 to Rubert Buchet and bought a new one chassis number 1016
This car is to day in the states and appear in many meetings

By April 1961 Porsche send a strong team of 5 cars to the Targa Florio

race number 132 for Hans Hermann/Edgar Barth
race number 134 for Bonnier/Gurney
race number 136 for Stirling Moss/Hill
and 2 Abarth Carrera
car race number 92 for Strahle/Pucci
car race number 96 for Herbert Linge/Huschke Von Hanstein

The race was won by a Ferrari Dino driven by Olivier Gendebien/Von Trips
Bonnier Gurney finish 2nd and Hans Hermann/Barth 3rd
The 2 off Abarth Carrera finish 6th overall for Strahle Pucci and 7th for Herbert Linge/Huschke Von Hanstein

As with 1002 Paul Ernst Strahle did enter 1016 in many local rallyes and hill climb races but difficult to find any pics
In September 1961 he was amongst the 116 starting cars of the 1961 Tour Auto with Hand Walter has co pilot
His car with race number 131 was DNF



Despite this poor result this car was choosen as a scale model

In November of that same 1961 year Paul Ernst Strahle may be to thanks him to have bought 1002, shared his 1016 with Robert Buchet at the Tour de Corse

Unfortunately shortly after the start the weather went very bad, with trees falling on the road and an heavy snow
The race was stop after the second leg with 11 cars only left
All the other competitors were classified 12th ex-aeaquo

In March 1962 Paul Ernst Strahle sent his 1016 to Sebring to race it in the 1962 12 hours Sebring race
For the occasion he was representing Porsche KG who give him Edgar Barth as co pilot, together with another abarth Carrera driven by Dan Gurney/Holbert

The Abarth Carrera was already in its 3rd year of competition but this car was so competititve than Dan Gurney finish 7th overall and first in the 1.6 L class
Strahle was 9th

By May 5th 1016 was back to Europe
Paul Ernst Strahle as every year race it in the 1962 Targa Florio with Hahni as co pilot
On the contyrary of the 2 precedent years Strahle was DNF
