    So fake or not ?
the red car has beams in the wings as the third Sauter but has a plain front when the cars seen racing has a big open mouth so
For sure it is not Heini Walter ex-car who had a pain mouth but retractable beams
In another hand a fake is not invited to a so reknown event that the Goodwood festival of speed

According to Steve Heinrich Heini Walter car is known as the Sauter KS11
KS for Kurt Sauter, 11 as the 11th Sauter car built
Sauter KS12 is also a spyder, not very different from the 3 off Sauter Porsche, but with a Renault chassis and engine

If Heini Walter is KS11 and the Renault spyder KS12 the 2 other Sauter Porsche should be KS09 and KS10

Therefore I assume that the 2 Sauter Porsche outside Heini W

After the Porsche powered and the Renault spyders, Kurt Sauter moved to DKW engines but as you may see on the enclosed pics the formula 3 race car below if powered by a DKW engine has kept the Porsche front suspension and its Porsche wheels and brakes

              Hi Vance

I believe you are right your pics show Kurt Sauter 1951 roadster with it "suicide" doors
Note the funny top very similar to the one seen on some 550 spyders

In 1955 after some hill climb races the previous years with pre WWII cars such as a Bugatti, a Talbot Lago or a 328 BMW Heini Walter decided to buy the Merkkel-Porsche raced by the east Germany pilot Harry Merkel during the 1954 race campaign

Although Heini Walter won many races of the Swiss hill climb Champonship with this car, 1955 will remain an horrible year for Heini Walter
Indeed Harry Trenkel sold him this car with a certificate stating that the engine was a 1100 cc pushrod Porsche
At the end of the season just before to receive the Swiss Champion title the engine of the Trenkel Porsche was desassembled to control its capacity who was found to be 1300 cc instead of 1100 cc
Heinin Walter was disqualyfied and all his victories cancelled

The Merkel Porsche took his name from an east German pilot named Harry Merkel born in Leipzig in 1918 and dead in Australia in 1995
Harry Merkel was running an industrial company
With a group of Berlin friends called the "Renngemeinshaft" they entered various cars such as Porsche 356, Borgward, EMV (east Germany race car company) BMW etc in many local races
Harry Merkel started to race in 1951 and stopped in 1960 when he moved to west Germany first where he became importator for the Italian Guzzi motorbikes, the French Panhard cars and the Italian Lancia cars
After a divorce he remarried and mooved to Australia with his new wife.
On the following palmares extract it is clear he started to race the Merkel Porsche in 1954

Although Merkel entered his car under the name Merkel Porsche spezial it is clear that he did not built this car himself
As far as I have found the Merkel Porsche was built by the east German sport cars manufacturers Rommetsch

The car seen in the 2 above pics is really the one raced by Heini Walter If this car is really a Rometsch built spyder, it is not the one exhibited at the Hambourg prototyp Museum and considered as one of the 550 precursor

I have not found if the ex Heini Walter Merkel Porsche still exist to day
If one of you knows please tell us
Rometsch did produce very few aluminium spyders but a lot of sport cars built on a VW chassis most of the time with also a VW engine but some with Porsche engine
A special chapter will be dedicated to them
