Rear wheel well

Can someone tell me If the interior side of the rear wheel well of a T-1 gets tar paper?
Also does the upholstery that covers that area go on door panel cardboard type
material first or leather directly on the well?

Hey Gordon,
Yes, the inner closing wall was lined with tar paper.

Here are detailed shots concerning the side cover.

Original side out of T1 coupe 57976. The bottom and ends have been clipped short. The bottom would be tacked onto a wood strip that was secured to the chassis. You can see that tack strip in the first photo.



The only cardboard was a heavy strip sewn at the very top which created the "hook". This cardboard tucks into that strip of sheet metal at the top of the inner panel.

Thank you Justin for taking the time. Previous owner had shag carpet
in that area and stripped all the paper off.

My pleasure Gordon. Shag carpet huh? Typical late 60's and 70's DIY treatment; NICE! I took those shots for future reference before I sold them and am glad they could help you out too. Here is one more detail that might help you:

There was a big chunk or ball of padding that was inserted here to help smooth the contour of the vinyl cover as it wrapped around to the door jamb. I'm planning on using high density foam that I can cut sand and shape much like your seat pads. Also note those tiny holes running along the frame; these are from the nails that secured the wood tack strips onto the frame. Also the steel strip along the top that the cardboard edge slips into. Hope the old owners left that alone. Justin
