Ah... this first car imported by Frazer Nash (AFN). In 1954 I was at Senior school. I used to pass by AFN often as I have mentioned before.
In 54 I don't remember seeing 356 cars in their showroom. By 1958 I did see them, business for them was much better.
This car was owned as you have shown by Jeff May from 74 -79.He was a founder member of the Porsche club GB. He owned some nice cars including a aluminium bodied 356 cab. I don't have photo's of this first imported car at that time but he attended PCGB meetings like me at that time so I wonder if I saw it? I have PCGB magazines from that era so will check them.

The owner Roger Bray is well known for restoration over here. I believe he went to AFN one day in the 1990's and saw this car they (AFN) wanted to sell. It was very rusty and he restored it. ( I am sure it was this car and an article was written about it. I will check)

The Maxted Page company is also involved with Prill the engine specialist in the UK. He race prepares all 356 engines carrera included.

You put a photo on this car a while back I was interested to see that.
I will try to find out the history I am pretty certain it is the car AFN sold for a low price to Roger Bray.

Further to my last post a few minutes ago I attach a link that shows Roger Bray did buy this car from AFN in a very sorry state of condition!!

According to Lee Maxted Page the story is as follows :
In 1986 this car was bought back by AFN in a very bad state
AFN kept the car stored from 1986 to 1996 when theu sold it to Roger Bray
Roger Bray kept this car from 1996 to 2003 when he sold it to John Churchill Twickenham who kept the car until 2006
Bruce Godard from Sydney bought the car in 2006 and flyed it to Australia
He kept the car until 2011 when Michael Burt buy it and flyed it back to England
This car was then given to Andy Prill and Lee Maxted Page to be converted to the race car as it is to day

Gerard,

31 AAU registration must have been supplied after the car returned from Australia. The original number 3581H is the one to use to find history. I will be looking at the period of 1974 -79 when its possible I might have seen it.The change of registration number always makes it more difficult.

Its most useful you have shown the car with the original number as otherwise I would have little chance with only the chassis number.

I agree with you this car as it is to day is really desirable, but Ted Woolley was a precursor as the stance of the car on this pic taken some 60 years ago is already perfect
