This is an interesting one. Looks more like Gmund Austria, than Stuttgart. any idea what the date is? The car kind of looks like a Gmund car, but the bumper deco is what was used on the 1950 to early 1951 Stuttgart cars.
On the same subject, I am looking for as many photos or drawings of Gmund cars being built or designed to assist with the restoration of 037. The chassis is very rusty and, of course, is completely different than the steel bodied cars. Dave Seeland was kind enough to let me take photos, measurements and drawings of his car, but there were considerable modifications made to the SL cars over the basic Gmund.

Someone a while back posted some photos of an old Gmund racer, holes drilled everywhere. I'll try to find that old entry.

Ron - Where in the country are you located? Jeff Zwart has a Gmund that he drives around SoCal to various car events. Also Road Scholars restored 356/2-045 and there are over a 100 pictures on Facebook, many in bare metal. Lastly, the Prototype Museum owns 356/021. Maybe they would be willing to share some pictures.

In that pic that Vance posted, I'd like to know what they're toasting to with the champagne

I am in the Detroit, MI area where a lot of early 356 cars were shipped because of all the automotive engineers and jobbers - not so much any more. Specifically, I am about 30 miles north in Chesterfield, MI. I have seen some of the Road Scholar photos and I will revisit that source.

My Ruby Red 1961 Roadster was parked two cars away from yours at the MotoArts In The Park.

I was the 10th car on the dam and the first red one.

Probably not many folks know that you were a USAF pilot once.
Only a former Navy Pilot would.

Yep September 1957 when I headed for Pensacola and USN Flight training.
I was in a photo RA3B squadron in Jax from 1959 to 1965.


Then to ADW flying the SecNav VIP VA3B


Then down to Oceana for our war in A6s going out West 1969-70.


I help Chris O at Lufteknic most of the time on 356 restorations.
He had the Ruby Red Speedster parked next to the Roadster at Fontana.
This was at Classics On The Green 2016.



I just show the car locally now.

Never seen a police coupe before.

Yes, that is the first police car coupe I have ever heard of - although that's not definitive. Understood there were 94 made from 1956 through 1965/6 and they were all Cab's. Wonder if this is a one-off? Anyone know if there is a police car expert in the 356 system somewhere?

Which leads me to - I need the flashing blue light and stalk for an early SC police Cab (July 1963). Even some good photos and dimensions would be helpful, also need radios, rear speaker and bumper light. Again photos and dimensions would be useful. All for 159301
