I thought I once read somewhere (maybe Ludvigsen) that about 1911 or so that Ferdinand Porsche had patented a 4 cylinder boxer air cooled engine for aircraft use. Anyone ever see such a thing?

I have a friend who is building an ultralight biplane flying boat and he is going to use a VW two cylinder adaptation for the engine. Apparently there are kits that can be used with the VW boxer 4 cylinder engine to cut the case into 2 pieces and covert one to a twin opposed engine.

Interesting you should mention that Pat, Dean Polopolus was talking about doing a two cylinder version of his 911 based motor. That would make for a great Airplane power plant...
