Helmut Pfiefhofer Porsche Automuseum in Gmund

Here are some photos from our 2006 visit to Helmut Pfiefhofer's museum in Gmund in Karten--home of the car to first bear the Porsche name. It is the only private Porsche museum that I know of and certainly worth the visit.

Thank you for sharing these photo's Pat! I must admit I am not familiar with this museum. How long has it been in existence; any background info would be great. Helmut must of had a signifcant connection with Porsche. An Incredible collection, the body bucks I assume are the originals? It looked like an amazing trip and having such a beautiful traveling companion I'm sure made it that much more enjoyable. Thanks once again for posting these! Justin

Helmut's museum has been there since I first heard about it in 1995. Here is a link or two. It is about an hour south of Salzburg.

What a great thread, and such super photo's. That really is a great museum and like Justin I didn't know of it. I bet you stay in there a complete day just looking.
It seems he has such a complete range of cars including a kubelwagen
I presume he would love to get a typ 64. If only they had made more.
The photo I saw recently on a forum and saved it.

Thanks Roy. We loved the museum and I highly recommend visiting it. There is a lot of stuff there. We left Salzburg in the morning, spent about 5 hours there, drove through Heiligenblut Austria, on over Gros Glockner to Zell am Zee and on to Kitzbuel for dinner. Best drive of my life--just wish I could have made the trip in my 356 rather than a VW diesel minivan!

For those of you that like "fast" things--the gentleman on the right in the photo above is LTCOL Jim Strawn, USMC(Ret)--he holds the record for surviving the fastest ejection and living ever done--1.3 mach from an F-8 Crusader! He has a bit of a limp from that experience. Here is his story
