  • Is this shifter supposed to have this bend?

Shifter from an a coupe, has a hard bend to the left about 2" above the ball. Is this supposed to have this bend?

Hi, Thanks for joining us and Welcome! The lateral bend leaning toward the driver is not correct but it is supposed to have a double bend fore and aft if from an A-car.

This is the original shifter out of my early 1957 T1 coupe with a double bend. Hope this helped.

Welcome along here, Justin shows his 356A T1 gear shift lever. You don't advise the year of your 356A. The 1958-9 T2 model A has a possibly a different style. My 1959 shift lever is original never altered. I attach a couple of photo's. The lever has the pronounced bend at the top end. Your photo does not seem to show that but maybe that's the way you photographed it? The lever goes straight down to the ball end from my memory.

I could clarify more on the actual angle and radius and position if you needed it.
