  • It is interesting that Freeman's car seen here in Phoenix in April 1964 is very similar to Wilke's 550A - white, indicator lights removed and looks like modified headlights.

    Timing fits in after Ward...

I still think that the Erickson/Wilke car is 550A-0132

    • Hi Steve,

On P679 you do not have a race # for Ward in his 550A at Indianapolis. Just to confirm it is #26

            • Hi Steve and Vietta,

On P663 with the Road America Listing you have no Chassis # for Tom Schelble. He is driving 550-0047. Please also correct the spelling of his surname as it was spelt incorrect in the original race program

                • Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to respond to Andrew's addition of 550-0047 for a previously unidentified race result for Tom Schelble.

We have corrected the spelling for Tom Schelble at the 1960 Road America 500 race and added chassis nr. 550-0047. Thank you Andrew. We are curious about how you identified this car!

                    • Only a few cars had the 2 gills in the side - some of the early protos, 550-0047 and 550-0081. Only 550-0047 had the the additional scoop air intake on the top of the engine deck

                      • Hi Jurgen Barth's book shows Pucci/Davis in 904-006. Del Johnson and Stanley Gold who owned 006 feel it was 006 also for the 64 Targa

                        • Jacques,

Thanks for the info. I think we'll stick with the Porsche internal race documents.

This stuff is not easy, of course.

                          Best,

                          Steve Heinrichs

                          • Hi
i would investigate further since there are obvious inconsistencies and it would be a shame if your book is to be considered the authority and have errors that could be rectified.

                            • Jacques,

Respectfully, we are as you can easily tell, responding to each question as best we can. Our book has some errors and so do all others. We have the race sheets in this case.

I encourage you to provide some specific data, not just the notion that someone else disagrees, whether it is another author or former owner of a certain car.
