This fabulous record and trend setting car is worthy of a bit more discussion. A good bit of it's history can be found here:

When I went to work for George Barris back in the early 70's, this car was in the warehouse with a bunch of other semi retired Kustoms. I immediately recognized it from the "Dobie Gillis" tv show (remember Maynard G Krebs?),last aired nearly a decade earlier. My elation turned to tears when I saw that George had completely eviscerated the car, turning it in to a non-operational shadow of it's former life, with a gutted internal drivetrain, all in chrome. UGH! Good news is that this legendary car has been restored to it's former glory, and has been shown at the Pebble Beach Concourse de Elegance in recent history.
