David,
Why are you so negative? The better question might be, why are you so oblivious? The results are in.
An restatement of the obvious without making some point is pretty weak, and does nothing to offset the remarkably poor show of perfunctory support for the same old Same Olds.
The lawsuit has not persuaded the non-wacko members(read vast majority) that any Trustee has done anything wrong. The financial audit uncovered none of the wrong doing that the conspiracy theorists assures us has occurred.
Now, this one is so sticky that the outright lie is probably your best bet. When all else fails, deny, deny, deny.
The membership, in mass, has concluded that there is no reason to support any "Gangs Of..." or to volunteer themselves just to be sued by one of the few wackos in the club. We are lucky the current Trustees didn't resign in mass as a result of the actions of the unhinged few that continue to fan the nonexistent fire. Will this crap ever end? Until it ends there won't be many new faces on the board.
What with the syntax, grammatical construction, and crass epithet, this one almost works for you, save one grave error; it contains a kernel of truth, and that sort of thing could ruin your reputation.
Why don't you run? Afraid of being sued? Or, afraid of not receiving thousands of votes to confirm the rightness of you philosophy on running the Registry?Cliff
Again, restatement of the obvious; who else would write a piece like this.----------
Keep 'em flying...

Thanks SJ. No need to apologize. Your writing is always entertaining.
Thats the best laugh I've had all week!
Now, in truth, I like Cliff. He is what he is, and isn't shy about making his feelings known. I usually disagree with him. Almost always 180 degrees apart. But that's cool. I can have honest, open, sometimes even vitriolic disagreement with people and remain friends. Heck, I enjoy a good debate. Sometimes, as a result, I realize my opinion is wrong. Its the ones who remain silent, who don't voice their opinion, who keep it to themselves, quietly machinating in the dark, that I can't tolerate.
I don't think I'm negative. Blunt perhaps. My question back to Cliff, sent privately to avoid cluttering that thread with personal bickering, was why he is so positive. Like a high school cheerleader who, regardless of the score, unfailingly chants "Gggooooo team".
"Why don't you run? Afraid of being sued? Or, afraid of not receiving thousands of votes to confirm the rightness of you philosophy on running the Registry?"
Cliffs right about this. I would be afraid of being sued. Given the current circumstances, at best its certain to be a big headache. Things will eventually get sorted out, I'm sure. But until they do a guy would be pretty foolish to jump into the fray.
I was pleased to (finally!) see a few trustee meeting minutes. I'm optimistic enough (see, not so negative Cliff!) to hope it is the start of a trend.
Oh, and all please welcome my good friend Kristoph to his forum. He is the sort of young fellow who gives me hope the future. For the world as a whole, as well as our little car hobby.
Take care,
DG

Verification that the magazine is the 'club' and that cutting it way back or digitizing it would be a good thing. Thanks Emil.

Cut back on the magazine and I'm out. It's a main draw for me.

One obvious solution to returning the club to the majority of members
would be to ban anyone with a 356 business from being an officer of the club, thereby eliminating the potential for governance by self interest. Thanks Dave for the insight.

Guys,
With regard to the comment about Trustees or Officers with "business interests", I believe that the best practices model is the U.K. club which has specific rules regarding conflicts of interest. The Club there is well run and well respected. The Registry could learn much from how the U.K. club is run.

I believe the root of all the club's problems is it's control by those with financial interests in the land of 356. 356 owners and hobbyists should be in charge of the club for 356 enthusiasts. Those with 356 related business interests should be allowed membership, but not officership. Their interests don't match the vast majority of 356 owners and they should buy advertising at rates set by other than themselves to support the operation of the club. Perhaps a percentage
could go towards a worthy charity that the majority of members would support. The publishing of magazine or e-media should be out for bid each year to keep it competitive. It would certainly end all the secrecy and remove any suspicion of malfeasance, imagined or real. To those who say 'if you don't like it, go away', I say, 'after you' will be the answer you'll get. 'Love it or Leave It', been there, done that. Don't you guys even have a minutely altered version of your schtick ??

Mark:
Sometimes (most of the time?) I have to agree about the boredom. I'd much rather see stuff about members doing things with their cars. Local shows, local cruises, etc. Kind of a much larger version of Drive Your 356 Day. Suits me anyway.

Here's another pertinent question IMHO. Why is the publisher of the magazine permitted to do anything other than publish the magazine for
the club as the Club's employee and at their discretion ? Anyone else
wonder why some might see a large conflict of interest with both Ohio and IRS regulations ? How does he become a de-facto officer with benefits, elected by no one, yet partaking of the same 'benefits' that
the trustees avail themselves ? Just asking another one of those boring, pesky questions that will soon be answered in a court of law.

The editor is an officer. So is the Membership Chair, who, by strange coincidence is an employee of the publisher, who, by another coincidence, is the editor.
The editor has about 300,000 reasons per year to maintain the status quo. Certainly quite a bit of that is overhead, but, if there were no personal benefit to a guy who does not own a 356 he's smart enough to quit doing it. Nice work if you can get it I guessBill Sampson
