    Guys,

While helping a friend put his shift lever assembly back together on his '63 cab I noticed that the lever rotates in the housing. He said it had always done that and has owned the car since 1974. After telling him it should not do that we removed the housing and disassembled it. Further inspection showed that the lever itself (#1 in the diagram below) was rotating in what I will call the "base" of the lever (#2 in the diagram below). It appears to be a press fitting and we could find no way to tighten it.

Is there a known repair? Must it be welded?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Sebastian,
Since I know you visit here occasionally I offer this:
My shift lever did the same thing. I cleaned the joint between the ball
and lever with acetone while rotating the lever a few times. When dry,
I used Loctite professional super glue and worked it into the joint by back
and forth rotation. Stopped at the point I wanted the lever to stay and let it dry. That's been a few years ago and no movement since.
    Cheers,
    Joel
