  • So in May 1954 3 Porsche + 2 Glockler Porsche did race in the 1.5 L class with Borgward, Osca and Lotus
Two of the 3 said as Porsche were entere"d by the Berlin Rennengemeinshaft the one of Berhardt Cappenberg who is the designer of the Rometsch Porsche, and the one of Helmut Niedermayer who is also known as a pilot of the Rommetsch Porsche and of course Harry Merkel
    No 550 were present
Curious were the Porsche said as Porsche in fact Rommetsch Porsche ?
In this case that would mean that not 2 Rometsch but 3 were built
    Who nknow ?

    • Mssr.de Roffignac:

I hope you will pardon the sidetrack, but my curiosity is inflamed by the racer no.16 in your post #26424. It looks familiar beyond its similarity to a miniature Auto Union.

      Any I.D.?

I have no idea of the make of the racer 500 race number 16
There were several racers in this race
Came back to the site where I found the Rometsch pics and found these :

          • The formula 500 was a big success in Europe from 1947 to 1960
            The basis where :
front drive train from the Fiat 500 Toppolino
            chassis free
no differential at the back like on a Kart
Motorbike 500 cc engine (any make accepted) at the back

                • re 26474, with the four exhaust pipes, I think this car is perhaps powered by a early 356 super motor (would not be a Formula 500 racer). The carbs appear to be solex 40pbic.

                    • Peter Max Muller started a car business in Hanover
The first years after the war, life was very difficult in Germany lacking of everything, but a lot of war surplus like VW schimmwagen and Kubelwagen were available together of a lot of ex Luftwafe aluminium
Hence the idea to use them to built race cars
Peter Max Muller and Huschke Von Hanstein were friend having attended the same car races before the war.
As we have seen above, Peter Max Muller was full of resources and used his relations to provide fresh nourriture to the VW Wolfwsburg workers
Doing so he met a brilliant VW engineer named Vogelsang who exchange his knowledge in motor against food
That's how was born the Peter Max Muller hemi heads, 4 cabs 1100 cc 50HP engine

                      • The legend say that this engine is derivated from the Porsche study 161 for a flat 4 aircooled boat engine
I have no idea if it is right
Anyway this engine was very inovative with separated heads and hemi chambers
