  • Push rod engine identification

I have found some racing documents from an early Spyder which had its quad cam engine switched out for a push rod engine. On the race entry form, it is printed with the engine number as 250012 (in 1954) with 1.488 litres

Can anyone confirm this is a correct number for a Porsche engine and if so, what sort?

    thanks Andrew

I just ran the number on the "R" data base and came up empty. I will look in by books tonight, but a quick glance shows no 25xxx numbers so far for engines.
      Pushed around since 1966.

Yeah, 250012 is not a Porsche engine number. That said, P-50012 is. But that would be type 589, a 1300 Super, so not 1488cc. But if it was from 1954, then it is very likely a 2-piece case engine. Sometimes VW engine cases have been used on these engines, but that's not a VW engine number either.

        A mystery.
