There's a Hole on my Trans...

You can figure it out. I'm sure you can think it through. How does a clutch work? What is the byproduct of excessive usage (hint: it stinks)? How could it be mitigated?

The reason i asked is because upon close inspection, it didn't look like factory because it's not a "perfect" circle... looked more like a "hack"... my car has a TON of rivets in it... so i figured this was yet another ingenious idea of the PO... good to know it's not, just a ventilation for the clutch system.
