' It's only a car club ', some say, but everything large starts from a small seed. Much of what takes place within the car club that's really just a magazine posing as one, exists because the vast majority of subscribers are indifferent or unaware of the violations of the rules regulating non-profit clubs. As long as they get the magazine they don't care what goes on behind the scenes, and if any questions are raised, the subscribers fears are played upon by nonsense like someone is trying to get your personal info, or trying to sell you something like a book that was selected for Automotive Book of the Year. Demeaning the character of those who ask questions is another popular way of diverting attention from the legitimate questions being asked. If you are willing to accept such a compromise in something as simple as a car club, what else are you willing to adopt with the same laissez-faire attitude ?
What kind of 'leaders' of a club are willing to declare a member pursuing a legitimate claim against them for refusing to follow the law, non-gratis,and even go so far as to claim in their legal documents that that member is pretending to have cancer, and he subsequently dies of it just prior to being reinstated to that club having won that point and his original request for all the club records. Any decent person has to be disgusted with such behavior. Once again I ask the 'trustees', if you have nothing to hide, why are you going to such expensive and reprehensible attempts to keep it hidden ?
My hope is that someone with the finances and more importantly the decency, of R. Steven Heinrichs decides that enough is enough and finishes what Steve spent so much time and effort pursuing and winning. Are you out there ? Just ask for those documents. The courts say you are entitled as a member of a non-profit club.
Rest in peace Steve, those who knew you know your great character, even those who lied about you.
